Lancet drones forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to switch from American M777 howitzers to Soviet models
2023-02-28

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are urgently replacing American M777 howitzers with Soviet ones due to Lancet drones in the Kupyansk direction, the media reported.
According to RT in its Telegram channel, units of the 40th Artillery Brigade and the 92nd Mechanized Brigade of the AFU have lost at least five 155 mm M777 howitzers in the Kupyansk direction since early February, which were supplied from the United States.
The publication reports that although two of the guns were equipped with drone protection, they were destroyed by Lancet barraging munitions between Tabayevka and Peschanoye settlements in Kharkiv Region.
Also, according to data available to the publication, three more similar howitzers were destroyed at the AFU positions near Kurilovka and Peschanoye, 5 km from the Kupyansk-Uzlovyi station.
It is noted that most likely it was possible to hit the guns with direct hits of the Lancets due to the use of a new scheme of attack, in which the AFU gun crews attack from the rear.
The publication also wrote that the deficit of American howitzers and the Lancets activity make the Ukrainian armed forces switch to the old Soviet guns in the Kupyansk direction, among which there are 122 mm guns M-30 (model 1938) and Croatian 130 mm M-46 field howitzers delivered to Ukraine in August 2022.
We recall that units of the Western group of troops in the Kupyansk direction struck enemy manpower and equipment near Novoselovskoye of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Hryanykivka, Dvurechnaya, Masyutovka, Liman First, Olshany and Sinkovka of the Kharkiv region. Up to 70 servicemen and three armored vehicles have been eliminated in this direction over the past 24 hours, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, official spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, said at a briefing.
The KUB-E guided munition complex has received export approvals, which makes it possible to promote this product abroad.
