The State Duma in the first reading adopted amendments on registration marks for UAVs in Russia
2021-05-06

The State Duma adopted in the first reading a government bill providing for the introduction of accounting identification marks, which will be required to be applied to unmanned civil aircraft.
The changes will affect the articles of the Air Code. The accounting will be conducted by specialists of the Federal Air Transport Agency. It is also noted that special designations will be applied to "experimental aircraft and unmanned civil aircraft with a maximum take-off weight from 0.25 kg to 30 kg", imported and Russian production.
According to Vladimir Sinyagovsky, a member of the relevant State Duma Committee on Transport and Construction, the lack of appropriate regulation does not allow us to develop and adopt accounting standards and the procedure for applying registration marks on UAVs, which negatively affects flight safety.
After the adoption of this bill, it will be possible to immediately identify the owner of the drone if any damage is caused during its crash. There have already been many cases when drones fell on cars, damaged power lines, and there is no one to ask, it is difficult to determine the owner of an unaccounted-for device.
