NTI (The National Technological Initiative) created a prototype of a ground landing platform for UAVs.
NTI competence center in the field of robotics and mechatronics component technologies has developed a prototype of a ground-based landing platform for an unmanned aerial vehicle.

The main purpose of such a platform is to recharge (or replace the battery) of copter-type drones.

In addition to charging the drones, the platform will serve to store the UAV until it is not needed for the task. Thus, the platform will become an element of the infrastructure for the automatic operation of the UAV. The landing platform must provide automatic take-off and subsequent landing of the drone, and between landing and take-off, ensure the airworthiness of the aircraft, charge (or change batteries) and, if possible, perform cargo manipulation.

For automatic landing on the platform, GPS, visible and IR cameras will be used for orientation relative to a special mark on the landing station, as well as a laser altimeter to clarify the relative height.
That will be followed by servicing the UAV in automatic mode, connecting charging, or bringing the manipulator to remove the load. This task will require more precise positioning of the drone inside the platform.

A similar development already exists in the American company Amazon. Always Home Cam is a drone that works as a home surveillance camera and as a deterrent against intruders. The drone is triggered automatically when it enters the room and flies along a pre-set route, after which it returns to the docking station, where the device is charged and stored until the next departure.
