Aerodyne tested a specialized laser scanning complex Hovermap

Experts of the international company Aerodyne have tested a specialized Hovermap laser scanning complex at three mines of the Norilsk Nickel Polar Division.

The drone is capable of flying deep underground without a GPS signal with an attached laser scanner that scans the surrounding area 360 degrees. It can be used to make full 3D models of underground mine workings, treatment chambers, and other hard-to-reach places. The uniqueness of the device also lies in the fact that the drone control system is combined with a laser scanner, and because the surrounding space is scanned, the drone can fly around those obstacles that come across in the flight path. That is, the drone flies according to the program, corrects the route itself, flies around obstacles, flies out of sight, where it moves autonomously, and also returns on its own. The operator on a special tablet only sets the points where the drone should reach.

The drone weighs about 6 kilograms along with a laser scanner that weighs 1.8 kilograms. The drone flight time is from 35 to 55 minutes, depending on the weight of the payload.

Vladimir Orlov, a chief surveyor of the Komsomolsky mine of the Polar Division's survey center, believes that the main advantages of the new equipment are the accuracy of work and the ability to inspect blind spots, as well as the safety of work due to the operator being in a safe place.

For Norilsk Nickel, industrial safety is an important component of the work process, and to avoid the risk of the workers' health it is better to use the equipment. The drone can fly up to the sides, sides, ends, arches, and shoot with high detail and accuracy.
